Paradisus Cancún Celebrates €50 Million Renovation After April Reopening

Meliá Hotels International formally inaugurated the renovated Paradisus Cancún on October 18, 2026, months after guests returned to the all-inclusive resort in early April. The €50 million project preserved its white pyramids while overhauling suites, restaurants, wellness facilities and family areas.

An inauguration four decades after the hotel's debut

The October celebration included a hotel tour and a ceremony inspired by Mayan culture, followed by fireworks and a drone display spelling out "The Icon Is Back." Meliá Chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer welcomed guests with Quintana Roo Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra. Governor Mara Lezama also attended, according to Forbes España.

The resort had been fully closed since June 1, 2025, before reopening in early April 2026. Its history dates to 1986, when Meliá founder Gabriel Escarrer Juliá established it as the group's first property in the Mexican Caribbean.

At the inauguration, his son Gabriel Escarrer linked the renovation to that history: "with this investment, we are deepening the great legacy my father left us when he created this hotel in 1986".

The investment and the market

Meliá says the €50 million investment is intended to improve stays while supporting the property's profitability and long-term value. It forms part of a broader effort with partner owners and co-investors that has put nearly €1 billion into the transformation of more than 90 hotels in recent years. The company also reports more than 650 indirect jobs among suppliers in Quintana Roo.

The renovation closures affected Meliá's first-half results. In its report published July 30, 2026, the company estimated a combined EBITDA impact of about €20 million from the temporary closure of Paradisus Cancún and Gran Meliá Don Pepe. It described the Cancún resort as still ramping up after its April reopening. Group consolidated revenue, excluding capital gains, reached €1,047.4 million, a 7.1% increase from a year earlier.

By late September, the wider Cancún tourism market was in a downturn, UPI reported. Average hotel occupancy for January through July 2026 was 74.44%, compared with 76.77% a year earlier; for September 19-25, occupancy stood at 53.9%. Scheduled flights from the United States to the Mexican Caribbean were about 20% lower in summer 2026 than the previous summer. The airport director attributed part of the traffic loss to Spirit Airlines' bankruptcy and shutdown.

Redesigned suites within the preserved pyramids

Behind the retained pyramid architecture are 773 fully redesigned luxury suites, according to DRIFT Travel. The publication describes five pyramids whose interiors evoke cenotes through hanging vegetation and water features.

Accommodation ranges from 44-square-meter Junior Suites to the 319-square-meter Presidential Suite, with a 133-square-meter Governor Suite among the options. The property remains a family-friendly all-inclusive; only The Reserve is limited to guests 18 and older. That area has private lounges, dedicated poolside and beach spaces, and its own restaurant and bar.

Family facilities include a Family Concierge lounge, Aquazone water park and the renovated Kidsdom club for children ages 4-12. The Play District sports bar is also part of the resort's offering.

DRIFT Travel reports that the Destination Inclusive program includes locally inspired experiences tied to Mayan heritage, such as artisan workshops, private cooking classes and yoga near a sacred cenote. Guests in the superior Family Concierge and The Reserve categories can also take an offsite sunset cruise through Cancún's Nichupté Lagoon.

Wellness and recreation

The 1,500-square-meter YHI Spa combines heated treatment rooms with a water ritual, sauna, hammam and healthy drinks bar. New additions include the Longevity Suite for rest and recovery and FACE SPAce by Comfort Zone for facial treatments.

Open around the clock, the YHI Moves activity room offers breathing exercises, sound baths, yoga, Pilates, aqua aerobics, indoor cycling to music and ice baths.

Elsewhere on the property are four pickleball courts, a private nine-hole golf course available for an extra charge and 26 event rooms. Kanna Beach Club, furnished with Balinese beds on the beach, remains open to the public.

The resort's sea turtle protection program has protected more than 175,000 eggs over three years. In 2026, the hotel received Ecostars Bronze certification and Mexico's Empresa Socialmente Responsable label.

Two new restaurants join the dining lineup

Dining now spans nine restaurants, seven bars, an ice cream parlor and a Coffee Corner by Nespresso. The two newcomers are Vibra, positioned as the resort's most gastronomic venue, and Kao, which serves contemporary Japanese cuisine in the main pyramid's atrium.

The renovation also reworked meat-focused Sal, Italian restaurant Cappella and fish-and-seafood venue Agua Marina. For The Reserve guests, Santé serves Mediterranean food beneath a sea-facing palapa.

Rates and location

A rate check on Meliá's official website on October 23, 2026, showed an all-inclusive stay for two adults at €593 for the night of November 19-20, 2026. The lowest-priced category available for that night was a 44-square-meter, lagoon-side Family Concierge Junior Suite Sunset View.

That rate reflected a 19% discount from the displayed €731 price. National taxes were included, but local taxes were extra. For the same night, The Reserve rates began at €613, while the Presidential Suite started at €976. The latter has three terraces and two hot tubs facing the sea.

Paradisus Cancún is on Boulevard Kukulcán at kilometer 16.5 in Cancún's Hotel Zone, 17 kilometers from Cancún International Airport.
