Meliá Sets Nov. 5 Opening for ZEL Cozumel All-Inclusive Resort

ZEL Cozumel is scheduled to begin welcoming guests on Nov. 5, 2026, Caribbean Journal reports. The former Meliá Cozumel, on Playa Santa Pilar, is being converted to the brand Meliá developed with Rafael Nadal, pairing an all-inclusive stay with Mediterranean-inspired dining and outdoor activities.

ZEL's expansion into Mexico

The 209-room resort will be ZEL's first property in Mexico and second in the Americas, according to Luxury Travel Report's May 2026 coverage. Its predecessor in the region is ZEL Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, which opened in March 2025 and is identified by the brand as its first Americas property in an announcement on Hospitality Net.

Cozumel was one of four ZEL openings planned for 2026 that Meliá president Gabriel Escarrer outlined in January, according to Global Agents (Mexico). The others were ZEL Gran Vía in Madrid, planned as the brand's first urban hotel, ZEL Fuerteventura and ZEL Creta in Greece.

Nadal's hotel interests extend beyond the ZEL partnership. The same January report said he had two hotel assets in Cozumel and was also associated with Abel Matutes' Palladium group in Cancún.

The beach and accommodations

The property fronts the white sands of Playa Santa Pilar on Cozumel's northern coast. Meliá describes it as the island's most extensive hotel beach; the May trade report puts the resort's beachfront at 1,000 feet, or about 305 meters. Advertised outdoor facilities include Bali beds, a beach club and an outdoor pool.

Room choices include garden-view, ocean-view and oceanfront accommodations across guestrooms and suites. A limited number of Casa ZEL suites will represent the brand's premium accommodation category, according to the May report.

The resort is on the northern coastal road, approximately 3.4 miles from the town center and ferry terminal and 4.2 miles from Cozumel's airport. The May coverage describes both the airport and downtown San Miguel as minutes away.

Mediterranean dining and shared spaces

ZEL's approach puts shared meals and outdoor gathering spaces alongside the all-inclusive offering. At Cozumel, that includes Mediterranean-inspired food, beachfront dining and a beach club.

The May report names three planned dining venues: an international buffet, Volcán and Parda Beach Club. Volcán will focus on grilled food, taking inspiration from traditional Spanish asadors. Parda Beach Club will serve Mediterranean flavors in a relaxed Caribbean beachfront setting. The hotel's own listings also identify buffet and steakhouse dining.

Sports, pools and spa facilities

ZEL Cozumel advertises yoga and open-water experiences, along with sports areas, minigolf and a fitness center. The resort also draws attention to Cozumel's competition calendar, including IRONMAN Cozumel, GFNY and Oceanman, as part of its active-vacation focus.

May's project coverage says the wellness facilities are to include two pools, a Training Studio and a Fitness Studio for group classes. It also lists the AUA Spa, with massages, facials and body treatments planned.

Options for families and guests with dogs

A kids club and children's activities are among the family amenities, in addition to the beach and pool.

The hotel's pet program permits up to two dogs per room, subject to conditions. Guests planning to bring dogs should contact the property directly to confirm the requirements and arrange their reservation.
