Connections and booking options
The agreement allows customers to purchase their full itinerary in a single transaction on the British Airways website. It expands options for travelers from London and elsewhere in Europe heading to Mexico, while giving Mexican passengers easier access to BA's network of more than 200 destinations.
British Airways' November 3, 2026, announcement lists the Viva routes included at each hub. Connections from Mexico City serve Guadalajara, Veracruz, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Cancún, Mérida, San José del Cabo, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Puerto Vallarta and Tijuana.
At Cancún, the agreement includes Viva services to Veracruz, León, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro, Chihuahua and Tijuana.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways' chief planning and strategy officer, said the partnership would make more Mexican destinations accessible to customers and make planning their journeys easier. He described the agreement as a new chapter in BA's more than 60 years of serving Mexico.
For Viva, Javier Suarez, executive vice president and chief planning and alliances officer, emphasized the smoother connections passengers would have when traveling to Europe and beyond.
Earning points, but no Avios redemptions
Members of The British Airways Club can earn Avios and tier points on the codeshare services. Eligibility depends on the flight number: according to Head for Points' November 4, 2026, report, Viva flights without a BA flight number earn neither Avios nor Club tier points.
The arrangement does not allow passengers to redeem Avios for Viva flights. That restriction also applies when the Viva segment is booked alongside a long-haul flight purchased with Avios, Head for Points reported.
BA's Mexico services and Viva's other partnerships
British Airways currently flies from London Gatwick to Cancún and from London Heathrow to Mexico City, with each service operating up to once daily, according to Aviacionline's November 3, 2026, report. On the Heathrow-Mexico City route, BA competes with Aeroméxico, which uses Boeing 787 aircraft.
Viva also has an existing codeshare with Iberia, another IAG airline. Aviacionline reported that the partnership began in August 2022 and now allows Iberia to offer 21 Viva-operated destinations from Mexico City International Airport. In January 2026, Viva began selling tickets to Europe and the Middle East through that agreement.
Viva's network and merger plans
Viva operates a fleet of 110 Airbus aircraft and describes itself as Mexico's most affordable low-cost airline. Its "Flex-SÍ-bility" option lets passengers change their travel plans.
According to British Airways' announcement, Viva has transported more than 180 million passengers during its 20-year history. Its network spans more than 60 destinations in Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba.
Separately, Viva is moving ahead with a holding-level merger with Volaris to form a combined group named Grupo Más Vuelos, Aviacionline reported.
