Fall captured on video

The fall occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the fairground hosting the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivals in Baja California Sur, according to Norte Digital and The Mirror. The fair celebrates the Feast of St. Luke, 7NEWS reported.

Lokmat Times reported that video circulating on social media shows Tezoco thrown from her seat despite its safety locks as the ride picked up speed. Screams can be heard as she falls to the ground and the ride continues swinging at high speed.

The attraction, installed for the festivities, is a high-swing pendulum ride commercially known as "El Péndulo" (The Pendulum). Reports also identify it as "Loop Fighter" or "Fireball."

Emergency responders, including local police, arrived at the scene and took Tezoco to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries in the early hours of Wednesday. She had graduated from the Baja California Sur College of Baccalaureate Studies that summer.

Restraint failure is the leading hypothesis

The Baja California Sur State Attorney General's Office announced Wednesday that police were investigating what caused Tezoco to fall.

According to Norte Digital, ministerial reports and witness accounts gathered at the scene point to a possible restraint failure as the leading hypothesis. Investigators suspect that the safety bar around Tezoco's torso may have opened unexpectedly while the ride was moving, allowing centrifugal force to throw her from the seat. That explanation has not been established as the cause.

Norte Digital reported that the Los Cabos municipal government ordered the attraction permanently closed and formally suspended the operating company's activities. Forensic services secured the ride.

Mayor Christian Agúndez also ordered a preventive safety review of the fair's rides, according to 7NEWS. He said the attraction involved in the fall had been suspended and the area secured for investigators.

Earlier safety checks and a leadership change

Municipal Civil Protection officials had reported inspecting the fairground and its rides on October 16, The Mirror reported. Francisco Cota Marquez, then the department's head, said inspectors found that "everything was in order" and that the festivities would take place with "full safety for families."

On October 21, the Los Cabos council named Diego Camacho Hale acting head of the municipal Civil Protection and Risk Management department while the investigation continued. The council said the change was intended to allow a transparent investigation without obstruction; it did not announce any sanction against Cota.
