Driver and motorcyclist killed
The shooting occurred near Privada Ermita in the Ampliación Ricardo Flores Magón neighborhood of eastern Mexico City. Pedestrians and drivers called emergency services after hearing gunfire. Responding police and paramedics found three people who had been shot; two were pronounced dead, and the survivor was taken to a hospital.
According to N+, one of those killed was the driver of a gray pickup truck bearing license plates WSD-985-C. He was found inside the vehicle. The other was a motorcyclist lying over his sport motorcycle immediately in front of the truck. He was still wearing his helmet, along with a white shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
N+ identified the wounded person as a young man about 20 years old who had been walking on the sidewalk outside a pharmacy. The outlet also reported that gunfire damaged the pharmacy and that investigators found at least 10 spent shell casings.
Authorities cordoned off the area, securing the busy road for emergency crews and the initial work by police and prosecutorial personnel.
Police trace suspects to Iztacalco
Witnesses told police that two men on a motorcycle fired the shots before fleeing toward Javier Rojo Gómez Avenue, N+ reported. The SSC said authorities used video surveillance and a virtual security perimeter to track the suspected attackers.
Officers arrested the two men in the Santa Anita neighborhood of Iztacalco borough. XEU Noticias, citing the SSC, placed the arrests on Coruña Street and reported that officers seized a handgun, cell phones and the motorcycle allegedly used to escape.
The men were turned over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which is responsible for compiling the case file and determining their legal status. Their arrests do not establish guilt; any criminal responsibility must be determined through the legal process.
Earlier survey measured safety concerns
A year before the shooting, the National Survey of Urban Public Safety (ENSU) found that 74.8% of Iztapalapa residents age 18 and older considered their city unsafe to live in, according to Infobae's October 2025 reporting.
Between September 2024 and September 2025, that share rose by 14.5 percentage points. It was the largest year-over-year increase in perceived insecurity among Mexico City's boroughs, Infobae reported.
Motive remains unconfirmed
Early media coverage raised robbery as a possible explanation. N+ reported that the case was initially classified as an attempted robbery, but that authorities later suggested it was a direct attack. Neither account establishes a confirmed motive.
As of Friday night, the confirmed toll remained two dead and one wounded, with two suspects arrested. Investigators still needed to establish the suspects' alleged roles, whether anyone else participated and the precise circumstances of the shooting. Official confirmation of the victims' identities and an update on the hospitalized man's condition also remained pending.
