Genomma Lab's Q3 Profit Rises 18.6% Despite Lower Operating Margins

Genomma Lab Internacional reported an 18.6% increase in third-quarter 2026 net income as lower financing costs and a one-time foreign exchange gain outweighed weaker operating earnings. Sales rose 1.3%, supported by growth in Latin America and a continued recovery in Mexico.

Earnings beat expectations

The Mexican pharmaceutical and personal care company reported net income of MXN 514.9 million on October 21, up from MXN 434.1 million a year earlier. Earnings per share increased to MXN 0.51 from MXN 0.43, while net sales reached MXN 4,497.6 million, compared with MXN 4,441.4 million. The results are stated in nominal Mexican pesos and prepared under International Financial Reporting Standards.

Both sales and EPS exceeded the pre-release analyst consensus of MXN 4.43 billion and MXN 0.46, respectively, reported by Investing.com. Net income represented 11.4% of sales, up from 9.8% a year earlier.

Operating results were weaker. Gross profit declined 2.6% to MXN 2,762.1 million, and operating income fell 10.8% to MXN 863.6 million. EBITDA, which Genomma defines as operating income before depreciation and amortization, dropped 10.3% to MXN 944.9 million from MXN 1,053.6 million.

Genomma shares closed October 21 at MXN 14.38, up 0.77% for the day, according to Investing.com. The stock's 52-week range was MXN 12.22 to MXN 19.48.

Mexico recovery and Latin American growth

Genomma attributed the sales increase to its recovery in Mexico and 12.2% growth in Latin America, partly offset by ongoing disruption in the U.S. Hispanic retail market. In Mexico, sell-out returned to growth.

CEO Marco Sparvieri said Mexico's performance improved for a third consecutive quarter. Despite a soft market, he said, every business unit maintained or increased market share. He also reported 39% sell-out growth at customers carrying the new product introduced in late June, while Suerox achieved a record 12.6% value share at the company's leading retailer. Free cash flow improved from a year earlier, he added.

The sales performance followed a year-over-year decline in the second quarter. In that report, released July 23, Genomma posted sales of MXN 4,397 million, down 6%, mainly because of a 10.8% appreciation of the Mexican peso, according to a Quartr summary.

Promotional spending weighs on margins

Gross margin narrowed to 61.4% from 63.9%, a contraction the company reported as 244 basis points. Genomma cited the destruction of returned products in the United States and increased promotional investment, including its full absorption of Mexico's new tax on non-caloric sweetened beverages.

The EBITDA margin fell 271 basis points to 21.0% from 23.7%. Management said it had deliberately increased promotional and commercial spending to accelerate growth. Operating savings substantially offset expenses and inflation, while selling, general and administrative expenses declined 1.1%. Lower financing expenses and a non-recurring favorable foreign exchange result nevertheless lifted net income.

Genomma said the EBITDA margin met its expectations. It also fell within the 21%-22% range management had forecast for 2026 in its second-quarter update, with a gradual recovery to 23%-24% expected in 2027, according to Quartr and Investing.com. The second-quarter margin had been 21.8%, down 200 basis points year over year.

Leadership transition and December Investor Day

The results come ahead of a planned leadership change. In a September 17 announcement, Genomma said founder and Chairman Rodrigo Herrera Aspra would become interim CEO on January 1, 2027, while retaining the chairmanship. The announcement said Juan Marco Sparvieri would lead through the third quarter and remain involved in the transition through December 31, 2026.

Herrera is expected to serve as interim CEO for 12 to 18 months to implement a new operating model. During that period, the board will search for a long-term successor.

Sparvieri said Genomma plans to present the operating model, execution commitments and its artificial intelligence platform at its 2026 Investor Day in New York on Thursday, December 3. He said the presentation would show measurable results and how successful approaches could be replicated across brands, functions and countries.

The in-person event is for institutional investors and sell-side analysts, with pre-registration required by November 25. Its agenda includes strategic priorities, growth opportunities, a new operational platform and demonstrations of AI agents used across the business. Genomma describes itself as operating in 18 countries.

Before that event, management is scheduled to discuss the quarterly results on October 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET, or 11:00 a.m. Mexico City time. Participants include Sparvieri, CFO Antonio Zamora and investor relations officer Christianne Ibanez. Nine sell-side analysts covered the stock as of October 21.
